Let’s dance ! Antoine Tempé photography exhibition

INFOS

Opening of the exhibition on Open Field/Paving in front of the Bassline.
On Saturday, September 29th, 4.30 P.M. with a performance by Fana Tshabalala.

In Benin, in 2010, as part of the first edition of its Dansons maintenant ! event, the Zinsou Foundation organised an exhibition of photographs by artist Antoine Tempé. This French photographer, who divides his time between Paris, Dakar and New York, gets us dancing through 36 portraits and photographs of performances by the greatest African and Afro-American contemporary dancers. African dance, rooted in society for thousands of years, now exceeds the scope of its purely traditional expressions. Through a new meeting between movement, music, body and space, a new form of  contemporary dance has appeared in recent years. Antoine Tempé’s photographs confront us with this creative vitality from the African Continent. Presented in very large format, outdoors, in public spaces, these images transport us, transform us and get us moving. The Zinsou Foundation will host a second edition of Dansons maintenant ! in November 2012, in Cotonou, Benin.

The exhibition will be presented in Newtown, around the Dance Factory and Soweto around the Soweto Theatre.

The exhibition is presented with the support of Fondation Zinsou.
